On A White Stone

Words and Music by: Lance Appleton

He that hath an ear let him hear
what the Spirit’s saying to the churches
He that hath an ear let him hear
what the Spirit’s saying to the churches
to him that overcomes and keeps my works unto the end
to him will I give power over the nations
I will give him the morning star
I will give him the morning star

You will be feasting on the tree of life
In the paradise of God
safe where the second death can not hurt you
where the manna is hidden I’ll give you a name
I shall be yours alone
and it shall be written on a white stone
on a white stone, on a white stone
and I will give you the morning star

I make the noise, I make it with my voice

it may not be music to anyone but You

He that dwelleth in the secret place – words and music by: Lance Appleton

By |March 26th, 2015|

One of the first songs I learned to play on the guitar.  I love this version because my (then one year old) son Ian can be heard walking in on our recording session.  Such great memories here!

Leaving it all in His hands – words and music by: Lance Appleton

By |March 14th, 2015|

This is an early recording from my dads  Gateway College days 1969 or 1970.   I can picture him in one of those great marble stairways making this recording (one of my favorite spots to sit and play when I was there).  This is a great snapshot of his early music and the type of songwriting that influenced him.
Special thanks to Jeff Miller for taking a box of my dads old cassette tapes and and preserving these gems!

Leaving it all in His hands

words and music by: Lance Appleton

I met a stranger in the park today

he was carving crosses on the trees

I must have watched him for an hour or so

working up the nerve to speak

Is there anybody here? – Lance Appleton and the Lord’s Band (Live)

By |March 11th, 2015|

Dedicated to a dear friend Lance Appleton, a mighty warrior for Jesus who fought the good fight. He made it his life to worship Jesus, and this is a song he played with friends in the Lord, not intending this to be published, but the song is a great one deserving to be shared, glory be to the God on high!

Music For My Lord – words and music by: Lance Appleton

Wait on the Lord – words and music by: Lance Appleton

By |March 5th, 2015|

words and music by: Lance Appleton

Wait on the Lord

be of good courage and He will strengthen thine heart

wait I say on the Lord …  wait I say on the Lord

Lead me in Thy truth …  Lord and teach me

for Thou art the God of my salvation

on Thee do I wait … all the day … all the day

NAYC Cortt Chavis – One God Apostolic

By |March 4th, 2015|

The story is that Dad originally wrote One God Apostolic on the way to a 1972 youth convention, because he had been given a 15 min time slot to speak and he wasn’t sure what he was going to say to fill all that time. Here are the same lyrics being sung 37 years later at the 2009 National Youth Convention … Guess it still works to fill in those small gaps 🙂

 I’ll Just Go With You

words and music by: Lance Appleton

If you won’t go with me

What’s the use pretending that Im not depending on your company

If you won’t go with me

I refuse to be spending time defending some new strategy

Lies will never do … I’ll just go with you

(Psalms 17:15)

As for me … I shall behold thy face

In righteousness  … in Thy righteousness

I will be satisfied when I awake

With Thy likeness … with Thy likeness

Freelancemusic.net is now a celebration of the life, music, and ministry of Lance Appleton.   Lance passed away at home with his family by his side Feb. 18, 2015 after a long battle with cancer.

He recorded 8 albums, “One God Apostolic” 1974, “Harp Warming” 1975, “So Happy” 1977 , “Run On” 1981,  “Live in San Francisco”1985, “Songs of Deliverance”1995, “Unto You and To Your Children” 1997, and “Hopes are High” 2002.  In addition he made two quality home recordings of his original songs “Lance Appleton Unplugged” in 2006 and a 5 disc compilation dubbed “In the Living Room with Lance” in 2008 and 2009.  Lance wrote more than 250 songs, and many were never recorded in studio quality.  This site is dedicated to bringing you his complete body of work some only left behind on cassette tapes, handwritten notes, or perhaps just in the memory of those who heard him playing, and singing his songs around the house.  Feel free to contribute your own recollections of his unique style of ministry though the comment section of this blog.

Songs About You

words and music by: Lance Appleton

In the house of my pilgrimage

Your statutes have been my songs

I think about them and I sing about them

and they give me the strength to carry on

Cause the Word is You, and the Word will be true

When everything else is gone

In the house of my pilgrimage

Your statutes have been My songs … My songs … My songs

Songs about You … and the things You do

Who You are and what You gave to me

About the time You take to say the things You say

and the way You say those things … the way You say those things

Because the Word is You, and the Word will be true

When everything else is gone

Yes, the Word is You, and the Word will be true

When everything else is gone
